The company has done more than weather the storm over the years; in the last two and a half years, it has thrived, experiencing impressive growth. This achievement is particularly noteworthy given the current economic climate, which has seen many businesses struggle with declining sales and even closures.
Nest Expressions Window Fashions has bucked the trend, carving out a niche in the competitive home improvement market. Lisa Lachina, the exclusive owner of Nest Expressions Window Fashions, credits her success to the power of networking and exceptional customer service. A large portion of Nest Expressions’ clients are repeat customers or referrals from satisfied clients. With over 160 Google reviews, they maintain a 4.9 rating.
“Networking is my thing, and customer service is my passion,” said Lisa. “I love to chat, I love to meet, and I’ve gone out there and done just that.”
One of the ways Lisa has connected with people who can help her business continue to grow includes joining the Builders Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh and the Professional Women in Building Pittsburgh Chapter. Both organizations provide strategies and solutions for local builders, with the women’s chapter focused solely on supporting women builders.
Lisa has more than 30 years of experience in the window fashion industry. She bought Nest Expressions Window Fashions from its previous owners two and a half years ago for the opportunity to continue doing what she loves.
When Lisa first bought the business, it exclusively sold Hunter Douglas products—renowned for their fashion-forward designs, award-winning engineering, energy efficiency, and automation. She has since expanded her line to include custom draperies, calling the additional product line complementary to the Hunter Douglas gallery of products.
“Custom draperies are new to Nest, but they’re not new to me,” she said.
Networking isn’t the only key to her amazing growth since taking over the business. Investing in a new gallery to showcase her product line was part of the equation. Nest Expressions Window Fashions relocated a short distance to 2015 Village Run Road in Wexford, more than doubling their gallery space.
Lisa chose the new space because it allowed room for her expanded products and ample space to showcase the existing Hunter Douglas line of shades, blinds, and shutters. “I loved the windows and the natural light, and the happiness, the brightness of walking in every day,” she said. “Even on dark days, it’s still the happiest space.”
The new storefront opened in November. However, roughly 75 percent of her customers take advantage of her free shop-from-home option. Her design team includes two drapery specialists and three certified Hunter Douglas team members. They make house calls to discuss customer needs, provide recommendations based on those needs, take measurements, and offer a price quote on the spot. “With this new state-of-the-art Hunter Douglas gallery, I’m hoping more people will come in, browse the gallery, and then schedule an in-home consultation so they can see all of our new products, all the new changes—everything Hunter Douglas has to offer,” she said.
Lisa states that the most popular design trends are Hunter Douglas’ roller shades, duette honeycomb shades, vignette roman shades, and silhouette sheer shadings. Roller shades provide privacy and a clean, sleek look at the window. Duette honeycomb shades are the most energy-efficient shades available on the market. The energy efficiency of duette shades enables them to qualify for the Federal Energy Tax Credit, which is a tremendous money-saver. Vignette roman and silhouette shades add class to your window. “If you can’t install it, you can’t sell it,” she said of her certified Hunter Douglas installers. Lisa mentioned that she has one installer with 30 years of experience and three more with over 20 years of experience. “There’s nothing they haven’t done and nothing they’re afraid to do. They’re just amazing.”
The whole process—from the shop-at-home appointment to design and installation—takes between four and 10 weeks. They are with you every step of the way.
