Wesley Family Services, founded in 2017, arose from the merger between Wesley Spectrum and Family Services of Western PA. The nonprofit offers a variety of programs focused on providing people of all ages with transformational care.
North Hills Monthly spoke with Kate Pompa, who is vice president of child/family behavioral health and autism and has been with the organization since 2012 (before their merger), to learn more about this impactful organization.
North Hills Monthly (NHM): What is Wesley Family Services?
Kate Pompa (Pompa): Wesley Family Services is a nonprofit organization that provides behavioral healthcare and therapeutic support services to children, adults, and families in Western Pennsylvania. Wesley serves over 20,000 individuals annually.
NHM: How do you achieve your mission of providing individuals with transformational care?
Pompa: Wesley Family Services offers a mission-centric approach that is founded on our care model, Quality Whole Person Care (QWPC). In order to most effectively provide, recommend, prescribe, and facilitate care, we examine an individual’s overall well-being. This type of care stems from assessing and addressing the full spectrum of an individual’s needs and requires a person-centered, recovery-oriented, trauma-informed approach built on the cornerstone that every individual is valuable and has purpose, gifts and talents that are uniquely theirs.
NHM: What are some of the services you offer?
Pompa: Wesley Family Services offers a wide variety of services for different populations that fall under the categories of aging; foster care and adoption; autism; behavioral health; education and intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD); and several others. These services are offered through programs, such as the Foster Grandparent Program; In Service of Seniors (ISOS); PA Medi; Wesley K-8 and Wesley High School schools; Family Based Mental Health Services (FBMHS); Autism Center for Growth; Creative Arts Program; IDD Residential Program; Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS); and many more.
A full list of services is available here: https://wfspa.org/programs/
NHM: Who can utilize your services?
Pompa: Anyone in need is encouraged to reach out to find the right fit in programming and services. Wesley Family Services also has a daytime crisis line at 724-335-9883. While some services require referrals, plenty of our programming is open to the public – such as our wellness center programming in our New Kensington location.
NHM: What is your most highly-utilized service?
Pompa: While we don’t have exact answers for this, foster care, autism and IDD services are probably our largest programs.
NHM: How can people find and utilize your services?
Pompa: People can find more information by calling (412) 342-2270 or 888-222-4200. Referrals are required for certain programs and services. They can also fill out a contact form at https://wfspa.org/contact/.
Our Wexford location is at 16055 Perry Highway Wexford, PA 15090, and our phone number is 724-443-8900.
NHM: How can the community help your organization?
Pompa: We are always looking for involvement from the community. There are so many ways to give back!
We are currently taking donations for our Wesley Wishes program, and we also have an updated list of needs on our in-kind wishlist. Wesley is always looking for foster parents and foster grandparents. There are also plenty of other opportunities to volunteer your time, specifically with our senior programs.
Ultimately, we encourage anyone interested in helping to visit our “give” portion of our website at https://wfspa.org/give/ to find the right fit for them.
NHM: Anything else you’d like for the community to know?
Pompa: Open enrollment for Medicare begins October 15. Wesley Family Services PA MEDI counselors work individually and confidentially with individuals to determine their health care needs and preferences, compare health insurance options, plan ahead for long-term living, and obtain Medicare and supplemental coverage that fits their lifestyle and their budget.
